The Role of Group Development in Online Learning - Susan Zvacek, 245 JRP

Current teaching and learning models emphasize a variety of interactive learning strategies that employ group learning such as problem-based learning, teaming, and learning communities, but there is very little discussion on how educators can foster successful group development - a core component of interactive learning. An understanding of group development is especially critical for online teachers, because the greater emphasis on interactivity necessitates an understanding of group decision-making, teambuilding, and conflict resolution. This presentation will cover how group development can improve instruction for both online and face-to-face learning.
