Create Buttons Tutorial
HyperStudio
Objective: To create a button for a HyperStudio card
Introduction: HyperStudio makes it easy for users to create unique, dynamic buttons to use on individual cards. Buttons can be used for various purposes, such as navigation from one card to another, a hyperlink to a web site, or to attach a specific "action" to a card. Buttons can be customized by using the variety of options on the "Button Appearance" menu.
Skill Practice: Create Buttons for HyperStudio cards
Step 1: Open
. Identify a "card", within an existing "stack", that you want to add a button to. Open the card so that the content appears on your screen.
Step 2: On the menu bar at the top of the screen, go to Objects > Add a Button. The "Button Appearance" menu will appear on screen.
Step 3: Using the Button Appearance menu, choose the shape, color, screen position, and name for your new button. Click on
to format the button's text. Click on
to use an icon with your button. When finished, click on
. The new button will appear on screen, with the outside edge highlighted in red
.
Step 4: Using the cursor, "click-and-drag" the button to where you want it situated on the card. When finished, release the mouse button, move your cursor off the button, and left-click the mouse button anywhere on screen. Your new button will now have a solid outside border (no longer in red) and be a permanent fixture on your card. In addition, the Actions menu will appear on screen.
Step 5: Using the Actions menu, attach a specific "action" to your newly created button for when it is used

For example, choose
from the "Places To Go" list to use the button as navigation, or a link, to the next card in the "stack". When finished, click on
. Your "finalized" button will appear on your card.
Step 6: Follow the same steps to create buttons for other cards in your stack.
