Blackboard

"BB is a Web-based course management system that allows instructors to easily develop and deliver instructional materials via the Web. It includes threaded discussions, file sharing, e-mail, chat, and research engines." IDS

Blackboard asks you for the following information about your course, and then sets it all up for you: Announcements, course information, staff information, course documents, assignments, communication, internal links, student tools

Instructor Use

What can't this program be used for! First attend some training session, then have all your course materials accessible to your students. Challenge yourself to avoid making one copy on your computer. With Blackboard, you type up your course information as usual, and then instead of making copies, post them on Blackboard!

Student Source

Students no longer have to go to the library to check out reserve materials. All you have to do is provide links to the information they need and they can get on the internet and get it themselves.

Student Tool

Blackboard may also be used as a tool for students to communicate with. Class discussions often threaten some students because it requires them to not only develop ideas rapidly, but also recite them in front of their peers. By having a continual discussion on Blackboard, students may share their ideas at their own speed and on their own time. By combining class discussions with online discussions you're bound to reach a higher number of students.
